Pomeranian Dog Breed Introduction
The Pomeranian, often referred to as a pom, is a little dog breed of Spitz. Pom weighs between 3 and 7 pounds and is around 7 to 12 inches. Pom has a long, thin coat that can be found in many varieties of colours such as orange, red, spotted, cream, black, and white. This breed carries its plum-like tail flat on its back. Pomeranians have short, pointed snout, small and upright sharp ears. Pomeranian is classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size.
These ancient Spitz herding dogs prompted the toy dog that we know today as Pomeranian. Initially used as a sled dog in Lapland, they were brought to Pomerania, now part of Poland and Germany in the sixteenth century. Their early ancestor was significantly larger than the present dog and weighed 30 lbs or more. Although Mozart and Marie Antoinette kept Pomeranians, it was Queen Victoria who was accountable for breeding the dogs to a smaller size. These little Pomeranians became very popular and were officially recognized in 1900.
This breed has been ranked among the top twenty most popular breeds in the USA, and the present craze for small dogs has increased their popularity worldwide. If you are looking for a lap dog, Pomeranian dogs are what you are looking for! They have a brilliant personality and are simple to get along with. However, they can get moody and temperamental when teased. On the other hand, Pomeranians are friendly, gentle and faithful. They are perfect for pet lovers who live in a small apartment, and can as well adjust well in a wide area.
They have the characteristics of a fun and energetic dog yet they are quiet and make an excellent companion. Pomeranians are very friendly and close to the human family. A trained and intelligent dog also serves as a good guard dog. They may have a habit of barking excessively in any circumstances. They are rather defensive and may bark even when hearing outside noise. Poms are demonstrative and enjoy being the center of attention, but can become dominant if not trained and socialized.
Pomeranian dogs are perfect for folks who want to take care of small dogs. Poms are considered a kind-hearted pet that can easily adjust in your home. They are fantastic small dogs. They might look like a fox in appearance but are affectionate to own. Just ensure you familiarize yourself with all the information about the dog breed. Taking care of Pomeranian dogs requires a lot of time and concentration from the owner. Their grooming necessities are fairly complex because they have two layers of fur that require special grooming. They have a short, fluffy undercoat and a straight topcoat.
