How To Make Walks More Exciting

While owning a dog brings incredible joy, the commitment of daily walks can and will usually become a mundane part of your daily routine. For our pups, walks are probably the highlight of their day, so it is only fair for us to consistently make an effort to give our dogs the walks they deserve. Walks are so much more than just a bathroom break – they are a time for us to bond with our pups while providing the necessary physical and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. If you’ve found yourself lapsing into a dull walking routine, here are some ways you can make walks more exciting.

1. Bring along a toy

For dogs that love to play, a quick round of fetch during walks is a simple way to bring out all the pent-up energy. Find a safe, open space for your pup to play, but do make sure your pup will come back on command if the area is not enclosed. Remember to act responsibly and cautiously to avoid any unfortunate incidents. For those using retractable leashes, try throwing a ball a little past your dog as you walk and see if it’ll run to catch it. This will quickly turn walks into a fun game for both you and your pup.

2. Take a different route

If you’re bored of the same old route you take every day, your dog probably is too. Change things up from time to time – your pup will appreciate the new sights and smells just as you will. Take a left instead of the usual right, or explore a new area altogether. A simple switch like this will easily add excitement to your daily walks.

3. Find or start a dog walking group

Friends make life fun, and this is no different when it comes to walking our dogs. Getting your neighbours together will turn your regular walk into a fun social gathering for both you and your pup. If you know of existing dog walking groups, don’t be afraid to join one. You can also keep an eye out for walking events such as Perromart’s Walk in the Park, which most recently happened last August at SengKang Riverside Park. Attendees were treated to vouchers given by Fresh Fruits Lab and Ménage Café, while their pups enjoyed an assortment of treats from Perromart. These gatherings are a great way to meet fellow “pawrents” in the area, and your pup will appreciate the chance to socialise with its fellow canines.
